The 31st of October, the eve of All Saints’ Day, is Halloween – a night when the air is filled with a sense of mystery and magic.
The origins of this celebration stretch back deep in time, to Ireland, where Celtic druids marked the end of summer with the Samhain festival. People believed that this was a time when the dead walked among the living and the boundaries between the two worlds became permeable.
Over the centuries, this ancient ritual has evolved into the event we celebrate today: Halloween – a spooky evening of masks, mysteries and fun. While trick or treaters have been a traditional sight on American streets for years, Halloween has now become a special celebration for the whole family in Germany too.
The focus is on dressing up in creepy or funny costumes, spending time together, telling stories and enjoying the magic hidden in every decorated pumpkin.
