En suite bathroom
Your own private wellness temple.
The en suite bathroom should ideally connect directly to the bedroom or dressing room and should be generously proportioned. It can be cordoned off by means of a large sliding door, possibly made of glass, that is opened when needed.
This separation makes sense if the bathroom
- has a different temperature and humidity
- is used at different times, in order to prevent disturbance through light or noise.
Design tips for the bathroom retreat
If the bathroom is large enough, the tub should be free-standing with the additional comfort of a whirlpool system and a pleasant view of the garden or surrounding buildings, for example, to highlight the lived-in character.
With large tubs consideration should be given to the weight (with natural stone), transport and installation (old buildings). With new buildings this is not generally a problem, but with renovations the situation needs to be looked at.
Create your bathroom the way you want with only a few clicks
Take advantage of the creative freedom a large bathroom offers. With the help of the Villeroy & Boch Online Bathroom Planner, you can play with different configurations until you find the perfect fit for your bathroom.

WC and bidet should be installed away from the tub, and the shower should be as large as the room will allow.
The material, colour and lighting should be coordinated with the bedroom scheme. If the same flooring is used, the room appears bigger, and there is also a visual connection between the two areas. Added convenience can be achieved by integrating music and TV in the bathroom. Thin wall-mounted TV screens with an integrated music system are ideal. In keeping with the en suite idea, the colour scheme should be restful and relaxing. If the room is large enough, wood combined with ceramics or natural stone is an ideal solution.
A sauna can also be integrated instead of being isolated in the basement.
